Graham
Hill - Ferrari driver, Goodwood 1964
"As with Damon, he was
a little older than most of them. He'd done an engineering course at
Cheltenham College and they sent him to Smith's at Cricklewood to make
coach clocks and speedometers. He hated it. He'd just come out of National
Service and someone threw him an Autosport. It said that you could go
to Brands Hatch and have four laps for a quid. So he went down on his
motor bike and was hooked. He gave up the job. There were plans for
us to get married ,but there were no prospects because he was desperate
to get into motor racing. And he did. By hook or by crook. Bloody hard!"
